User:Tautologe/Operator and Brand Conventions

From OpenStreetMap Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page is meant to work out conventions for the use of the tags Key:operator and Key:brand and their values. At the moment values for the same enterprise are often spelled differently (like "Edeka", "Edeka Neukauf", "E-Neukauf"). So in the end this page should be a reference which spelling shall be used when in doubt.

Generell Comment

"The operator tag is used to name a company, corporation, person or any other entity who is in charge of the operation of a certain map object." (Key:operator)

"The brand=* is a larger entity that a place advertises itself as part of. " (Key:brand)

The values of brand and operator may differ, e.g. in case of franchising (like gas stations, fast food restaurants).
