Hello fellow OpenStreetMappers. I'm Rick Marshall and I post updates to OpenStreetMap as user verticalgeo.

I am President and Founder of VerticalGeo a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business specializing in the collection and integration of geographic information. We are experts in offering Geographic Information System (GIS), Aerial and Architectural Photography, and Remote Sensing solutions to federal, state, and municipal governments and private industry. We specialize in Open Source solutions.

I am a retired US Air Force C-130 Navigator and now work through my company VerticalGeo as a consultant to the Air Force and Air Mobility Command GeoBase and GeoIntegration Programs at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, just 20 miles east of St Louis. I am a GIS Professional (GISP) certified by the GIS Certification Institute. I am also an adjunct professor in the Geospatial Technology program at Kaskaskia College, located in Centralia, Illinois.

I have been involved in mapping programs since my first computer cartography class at UCLA in the 1980s. I am very interested in how maps can capture and portray perceived reality. I enjoy spending time outdoors exploring the areas I have found on maps to see how they compare and differ with my expectations of the real world.
