Hi,

If all goes well, I'll be celebrating my 40th birthday in Cusco in 2008. I speak Spanish and a thought has just occurred to me: a mapping party in Cusco somewhere in July 2008 in order to bring OSM under the attention of the local people. Somebody has already been drawing almost all the streets in the city center, but they have no names, so it was probably from the Yahoo! imagery. Once we'll buy the tickets and things become a bit more concrete, I'll set a date and start creating flyers. Once over there I'll make a bit of noise and distribute those flyers to get some attention. (As if I'm not going to draw enough attention making photographs of street signs...)

I know somebody with an internet café there, she'll be happy to organize a mapping party there. It might be a bit small though. It's been 7 years ago I was there. Some things may have changed in the mean time. But finding a location with internet access shouldn't be too much of a problem. I hope I can get some interest of the local people there.

I feel good about this! I'll probably also be teaching English at the Excel language center. I did that for a month, last time I was there. Great experience, even if I'm not even a native English speaker. --Polyglot 22:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
