Hallo Kolossos, hast du Erfahrung mit SWM? Wir haben einen Prototypen aufgesetzt, der zeigt, wie man SMW im OSM-Wiki nutzen könnte. Was meinst du dazu? Gubaer 20:02, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Man wird sehen, ob das SMW dem jetzt schon hochbelasteten Server nicht den garaus macht. Man könnte ja auch an einem Skript arbeiten, welches die Map Features Seite auch so in ein XML Format umwandelt. --Kolossos 21:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Query-to-map: Description in resulting map

Hallo Kolossos,

danke für's zeigen der Funktion, ich habe sie gleich bei DE:Rollstuhlfahrer-Routing ausgiebig eingebaut. Es wäre toll, wenn in den angezeigten Karten die Description als Fußzeile oder ähnlich mit angezeigt werden könnte. Es wäre hilfreich zur Unterscheidung.

kleine Frage

Hi Kolossos,

über betawiki ist die Tage eine Änderung eingespielt worden, die ich gerne richtig übersetzen möchte. Mit der Änderung wurde "crossing" durch "what's below ways" ersetzt, wobei letztere Beschreibung relativ unspezifisch ist. Sind hier Pfade gemeint, so daß es heißen müßte: "J Verbinde zu einem Pfad".

Über einen kleinen Hinweis würde ich mich freuen.

I find a problem with wikipedia:de:Rhone Although there are two relation for Rhone, one use some object with the tributary key. Also I don't really know what is the good way for this, but I assume we shouldn't have two relations in OSM. Otourly 13:55, 28 May 2012 (BST)

es ist beeindruckend zu sehen, wie dank deiner Arbeit Wikipedia und OSM miteinander verzahnen. Ich unterstützte sie gerne.
Macht es Sinn, Relationen wie Waterways anzulegen? Oder Collections? Die meisten sagen, viel zu kompliziert. Aber wie sonst soll beispielsweise der Rhein angezeigt werden oder der Bodensee? Kann Wikipedia Werkzeuge bereitstellen, um historische Karten zu georeferenzieren? Wie lege ich Geoxml-Dateien in der Wikipedia ab, die beispielsweise die Entwicklung von Gletschern auf Karten verorten? Ist die Diskussionsseite zu WIWOSM tatsächlich die einzige Austauschseite? -- Glad 18:45, 2 May 2012 (BST)

Zu deinen Fragen:
  • Wir unterstützen derzeit nur die Relationstypen multipolygon, boundary und routes. Das ist aber nur ein Problem/Bug weil wir auf dem existierenden osm2pgsql-Stack aufsetzen und wir arbeiten daran alle Relationstypen zu unterstützen.
  • Der Rhein funktioniert übrigens, weil er als Multipolygon-Relation getaggt wurde.
  • Über das georeferenzieren von historischen Karten wurde bei der Wikipedia schon häufiger mal diskutiert: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Geocoding/Overlay-de Dieser KML-overlay ist stark vereinfacht. Die Wikipedia wird nicht aus der Luft besssere Werkzeuge bereit, es muss sich schon jemand finden, der sowas freiwillig entwickelt, aufsetzt und pflegt. Der Verein stellt mit den Toolserver eine mögliche Infrastruktur bereit oder fördert finanziell auch Entwicklungsprojekte, aber wie gesagt es muss sich jemand für die Umsetzung finden. Übrigens gibt es ein ähnliches, gefördertes Projekt, dabei kenne ich aber nicht den aktuelle Projektstand: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WissensWert_2011/22-Zeitreise_in_OpenStreetMap-oder_OSM_in_der_4._Dimension
  • Insgesamt suchen wir also Leute, die was entwickeln wollen. Zu tuen gibt es genug.
  • In der engl. WP nutzt man für GeoXML: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Attached_KML Mir ist der Ansatz aber etwas zu einfach, ich hätte da gernen einen Editor und eine ordentliche Datenbank. Aber wenn der Ansatz gut angenommen wird, kann ich ihn neben WIWOSM gerne mit unterstützen.

Re: Leaflet in vi.wp?

WikiMiniAtlas is still installed by default at the Vietnamese Wikipedia, but you can turn on the OpenStreetMap gadget (which overrides WMA) in your user preferences, under "Lướt wiki" ("Wiki navigation"). I haven't proposed making it the default yet, because it's far from feature parity with WMA. For one thing, it doesn't handle icons from display=inline. But there are improvements over both pre-existing gadgets, such as correct default zoom levels based on {{coord}} and Zoom levels.

As I've mentioned, the gadget is portable to any other Wikimedia wiki. Just add the following code to your personal common.js:

Hi, I didn't mean to imply that WMA has incorrect or insufficient zooming! I'm aware that WMA has much higher zooming than either of the other gadgets. I was referring to the zoom level chosen when opening the map: in the Leaflet gadget, at least, the default zoom level corresponds with the map scales at Wikipedia:Template:Coord#type:T and Zoom levels (see parsedParameters()). For me at least, the first thing I always do with WMA is zoom in three or four times. (Though I just noticed a great piece of logic in WMA that conditions the zoom level on coordinate precision. I might want to copy that, if you don't mind.)
Anyhow, my main reason for creating the Leaflet gadget in the first place was to get Toolserver-rendered Vietnamese-language maps into the Vietnamese Wikipedia. The OpenLayers gadget reverts to English or German tiles at a rather high zoom level, but OSM has thousands of town/village placenames translated into Vietnamese.

Re: CLDR is an unreliable, inconsistent source for Vietnamese names

The import was fine; I'm just glad the bounding box was large enough for me to notice it, because otherwise I'd only find out when the Toolserver maps update – and stubbornly refuse to reupdate with my corrections! I only had to correct a handful of countries, because it appears that you left existing name:vi keys alone. Actually, I had already translated all the country names into Vietnamese using this Toolserver tool, but I lazily skipped many of the countries where (in my opinion) Vietnamese had no translation distinct from the native name.

As a Wikipedia contributor, I wholeheartedly endorse Wikipedia as a source for translations. :^) The main problem with CLDR is that it relies on a voting mechanism, and that can lead to style inconsistencies in languages where things like place names aren't as standardized. For instance, CLDR had "Cốt-xta Ri-ca" for Costa Rica (a phonetic respelling, in agreement with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs), but left El Salvador intact (with "En-san-va-đo" losing the vote). The Vietnamese Wikipedia tends to err on the side of the native place name where possible.

When you import the ISO 6133-2 names, please continue to respect existing name:vi keys. (I'd still prefer if we relied on Wikipedia for state names, too.) From a quick glance, CN-91 and CN-92 are mistranslated in Vietnamese. (Though I believe I've already translated all of China down to the village level by now.) Some other translations I'd avoid are KN-13, CA-PE, GB-WLS, GB-NIR, GB-EAW, GB-UKM, GB-ERY, GB-SOS, and possibly GB-SCT and GB-SCB. Also, whenever you see "Thành Phố", "Quần Đảo", please capitalize them as "Thành phố", "Quần đảo", respectively. Finally, please avoid all of KP-*; I'll handle that with a more correct Hán-Việt transliteration when I get the chance.

ich bin in Tostedt auf eine Aufzählung von Links zu Spezialseiten von OpenStreetMap gestoßen. Teilweise sind sie in GeoHack mit drin, teilweise auch nicht. Nicht alle machen meiner Meinung nach Sinn in GeoHack (weil noch nicht aktiv o.ä.). Könntest Du mal meine Liste unter Nutzung verschiedener Karten anschauen und die fehlenden Links in GeoHack einbinden, wenn Du zur gleichen Bewertung kommst wie ich?

2x danke zurück, 1x fürs umsetzen, 1x für den Edit-Hinweis - ich war so auf das "fehlende Edit" rechts oberhalb der Linie für die Überschriften fixiert, daß ich das "Edit" in der linken Leiste nicht registriert habe. Ich dachte, es sei Absicht, daß diese Seite nicht jeder editieren kann. Als Grund hatte ich vermutet, daß Spezialkenntnisse erforderlich sind für das Verlinken von Seiten, die jeweils im richtigen Koordinatenbereich und der richtigen Zoomstufe aufgehen sollen (je nach dem, von wo man kommt). --Rennhenn 17:57, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I have a question - when I run this query and try to use the WP-to-OSM link I get the following error message: "ERROR: transform: couldn't project point (19.96 110.246 0): latitude or longitude exceeded limits (-14)" Is this because the tool is limited to Europe or is my original query malformed? reorganisation of this wiki's navigation

Hello, I write to you because you are part of the Wiki Team. I would like to establish a navigation concept for this wiki, lead by use cases. I wrote an example main page and an example navigation page (for the use case 'contribute map data'). In January, I wrote a correspendent proposal on Talk:Wiki_organisation, with some but not much feedback. I would be happy if you could add your feedback in order to decide either to refuse the proposal or to proceed. In the latter case I will incorporate all feedback, write the two missing navigation pages ('about' and 'use') and finally I would like to change the main page. georeferenzierte Artikel filtern?

Hi Kolossos, vielleicht kannst du mir weiterhelfen. Ich bin osm mapper und versuche gerade einen Weg zu finden, wie ich fehlende georefenzierte wikipedia Artikel in osm hinzufügen kann. Ich weiss zwar, wie ich in osm nach nodes mit wikipedia Schlüssel suche, aber nicht anders herum. Es gibt für NRW hunderte wiki Artikel, aber welche davon sind georeferenziert? Die fehlenden würde ich dann gerne nach und nach in osm eintragen. Gibt es irgendwelche Tools oder Datenbanken oder sonstwas, wo ich gezielt nach geo-Sachen filtern kann? Ich habe im osm Forum auch schon mal geschrieben, aber mit den Antworten bin ich noch nicht so ganz glücklich. [8]

JOSM hat ein ganz gutes Filtermodul, bei dem du auch nach fehlenden Attributen filtern kannst, das macht natürlich nur Sinn, wenn du es mit anderen Filtern ergänzt um die Menge der Objekte einzuschränken. Die Mehrzahl der OSM-Objekte werden halt nie einen Wikipedia-Tag bekommen.
Die Overpass-API kann das auch sehr gut, hier z.B. Kirchen in Dresden ohne WP-Eintrag. Diese Daten kannst du über Exportieren nach JOSM laden.
Daneben gab es mal ein gutes Wikipedia-Plugin für JOSM, was aber scheinbar derzeitig nicht richtig funktioniert.
Zu allerletzt gibt es noch Add-tags, das muss ich wohl aber erst wieder fixen. --Kolossos (talk) 17:00, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Ok, den Weg kann ich nachvollziehen. Mit overpass-turbo habe ich auch schon etwas rumexperimentiert, das klappt soweit. Den Filter in josm benutze ich auch regelmäßig. Mir geht es eher um das Filtern in wikipedia. Wie durchsuche ich da denn die ganzen Artikel nach einer Georeferenz? Kann man das am besten in einem xml dump der Datenbank machen oder einen sql dump nach mysql importieren? SQL stelle ich mir theoretisch machbar vor, aber dann wird es wieder schwer nach gpx zu exportieren. Wunsch auf längere Sicht wäre eine gpx Datei, die mir im Garmin Gerät wikipedia Artikel anzeigt nebst einer description in Textform. Grüße--Poop Fuel (talk) 21:10, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Den Datensatz von Wikipedia-Coordinaten gibt es von mir hier [9] als Post-Gis Dump. Vielleicht ist es aber auch einfacher, du holst dir einen WMFLabs-Account und hättest dann direkten Datenbank-Zugriff. (Ich will nicht verschweigen, dass wir auf dem Server durchaus auch etwas Unterstützung und neuen Schwung gebrauchen könnten.) Die Umwandlung von SQL in GPX erscheint mir mit etwas Programmierkenntniss eher trivial.
Innerhalb der Wikipedia kannst du Artikel mit fehlender Koordinate mit [tools.wmflabs.org/catscan2/catscan2.php?depth=2&categories=Bauwerk+in+Dresden&templates_no=Coordinate&interface_language=de&doit=1 CatScan] ganz gut finden. --Kolossos (talk) 21:14, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, we stoped this project for this moment. It's an important project and multilingual maps are still in our focus, but the realisation of project "locale" was absolutly brute force. A much more intelligent project is: [10] (The development was also supported by Wikimedia-e.V. and me.

WIWOSM status and how-to

Greetings Kolossos. Thank you for the work you are doing on integrating Wikipedia and OSM.

Is there a status page on WIWOSM somewhere? It does not appear to be adding new linkages into the WikiMiniAtlas and I don't know if I am doing something wrong, should complain, or wait patiently :-)

Query-to-map: 503 Service Unavailable

Hi Kolossos, Are you aware this service has been down for at least a week now? Is it intentional or will it be restored to functional status please? The example links at wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Query-to-map are a good test point. Thank you. Stewart 02:08, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

Optimize expiring rules

Hi Kolossos,

in the "research/ideas" page there is a heading optimize expiring rules. I saw it was last edited in 2011, is this already fixed? If so, then it can be removed from the page.

If not, I could take a look at it with some more info. With some statistics it should be relatively straightforward IMO.

Hello, I deleted this topic after 10 years the rendering stack is very different. Maybe the re-rendering process is still not perfect but I have no knowledge about the actual stack. --Kolossos 07:34, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer and for deleting the section in the research/ideas page. I'll try and find out some more about the stack and see if it can still be improved/if I have enough knowledge to actually improve it. --Svengeboers
