roadmap to proposal?

Hi, are there already plans when this will be extended into a full proposal? I'd actually like to see an universal solution in place soon - currently, there are several discussions and proposals like Proposed_features/parking_lane that try to solve a tiny part of the problem, but ignore the broader perspective. If this continues for too long, I expect that existing tagging will make the introduction of a generally applicable solution harder. --Tordanik 02:52, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

currently three are two new approaches according to this topic: 1) Relations/Proposed/Area 2) User:Ömmes/Wayparts. --Ömmes 18:27, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictures?

Can we have some pictures to show how a particular junction could be mapped and tagged? For example, this one in the UK http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=yo1&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=York+YO1,+United+Kingdom&ll=54.071969,-0.91738&spn=0.000837,0.003334&t=k&z=19 It would show how each of the proposals compare in practice Seventy7 17 February 2010

Some suggestions

I like the idea behind your proposal. It is simple to use (no relations) and backward compatible although it may result in quite a few tags on each way. I would like to suggest a few modifications to your proposal.
First of all, I don't like the use of a different key for each different lane (group) such as right1:*, right2:*, right8:* etc. Better use a single key and then a numerical field, e.g. right:1:*, right:2:*, right:<n>:*. This will be easier to parse by routers and other applications. The lane group number <n> may be optional and if omitted a value of "1" should be assumed.
Secondly I would like to introduce a couple of further namespace tags:
both:<n>:* for highways having a symmetrical layout.
center:* for highways having a special center lane, e.g. a reversible lane having alternating traffic flow directions for morning and evening traffic.
Do we really need a special "lane_type" key. Would think that the existing highway tags should suffice. Let's take a simple example showing the scheme with my proposed changes. A motorway 'A12' having three through lanes and an auxiliary lane leading to a slip road to motorway 'A4' would be tagged as highway=motorway, lanes=3, ref=A12, right:highway=motorway_link, right:lanes=1, right:ref=A4. polderrunner 23:01, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
