Re. Greater London Boundary

Hi. I saw your question on Wikipedia regarding boundaries - the maps on Wikipedia are probably not from an OSM-safe source, and took advantage of our understanding at the time of United States copyright laws, which allowed various sorts of things that wouldn't be allowed in the UK (like those). In any case, the source maps generally didn't show borders precisely enough to be of use to us. To reproduce these borders with clean licensing, I am going around London looking at street signs, parking meters and bins. Morwen 17:00, 7 September 2007 (BST)

Yeah thanks for the info. It's going to be fairly laborious process it seems! --TimSC 18:41, 19 October 2007 (BST)

Medway Mapping Party

User:Gregoryw Mentioned on the mailing list that you may work over that way, We could not be sure though. If you do, do you know anywhere we could meet up/be based for the mapping party? I tried adding you on MSN incase that doesn't work feel free to email me at pray4mojomonkey [at] hotmail.com (replacing at with @ etc...)

Thanks --pray4mojo 18:39, 23 October 2007 (BST)

RE: Abstention on Wreck proposal

Tim, I felt it would be improper to add my note to the comment section after voting had opened, hence my abstention vote with comment attached. I'm not familiar with the rules about voting, but I don't think its proper to adjust my vote so that a proposal lives or dies. If the system is broken fix the system. Reluctantly, my vote stands, although you could always try influencing me with a few beers ;) 80n 19:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, I will see who else I can get to vote on it. --TimSC 07:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Outer london mapping parties

Sevenoaks Mapping Party, Bromley and Sidcup Mapping Party, Dartford Mapping Party... quite a mini-marathon you're organising. Good work! I listed those on here. Hopefully some of the London gang will head down that way. Weekends are busy for me unfortunately, but I may be able to head over for the Dartford one. -- Harry Wood 18:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, the master plan is to focus on west Kent and south east London to make these areas join nicely. The seveonoaks party was really good. The weather helped. :) --TimSC 21:32, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

this edit. Did you mean to change Dartford event to July? -- Harry Wood 13:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I have just been too busy until now! --TimSC 18:31, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Tag sport=diving

Some time ago you contributed to tag:sport=diving. Unfortunately, the discussion on how to tag dive spots ceased without a real outcome. I think it's a pity, that there is no real common practice on how to tag dive spots, dive shops, air-fill stations etc. as such things will only make their way to the map tagged in common way.

To move things forward for a real proposal, I tried to summarize the main points for a final discussion on the page, asking for comments.

As you once contributed a comment or proposed some issues, you might be interested to have a look and help tighten everything up for a proposal.

P.S.: as I'm quite new to proposals and the voting process, I appreciate any kind of support.

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:Ashford Kent UK Map.png ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified January 2022}} from the file page.

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the creator of image File:MedwayMappingParty2Areas.jpg ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ" or "this is map generated from OpenStreetMap data and SRTM data" or "map generated from OSM data and only OSM data" or "This is my work based on file -link-to-page-with-that-file-and-its-licensing-info-" or "used file downloaded from internet to create it, no idea which one".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)
