Edit comments

Hi Yopaseopor, thanks for your help here at the wiki! :-) Please could you fill in the edit comment field before you save your edits? That helps others to quickly understand what and why you did an edit. Thank you! --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 22:22, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Gracias! Although, for new page creations it is quite clear what you did. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 22:55, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

OpenHistoricalMap

Hi,

We discussed on the OHM forum, imagining that we abandon the time slider which from what I understood is only a filter and therefore is problematic because it does not affect the rendering of the data, if we takes the Plaça de l'Ajuntament, the time slider will have no effect on the name of the place which will remain fixed whatever the date.

Now imagine that we come back to something more classic with maps on a fixed date as it seems to me that you have done, and using the more classic tag system "key: DATE-DATE = value "(which I must admit is simpler).

EDIT // For example, if we produce a renderer for 1950 and the place has the tag name: 1930-1990 = Red Square and name: 1991-2021 = Blue Square, will the 1950-renderer will show us the Red square name? And if so how do you code it? //

EDIT : @Yopaseopor:, I saw your Github folder for rendering, it's great. What do you think of creating a renderer identical in style to OSM but with a structure "key: [0000-DATE] - [DATE-9999]". It would take time but when it's done we could simply copy this renderer and replace DATE with another so with one renderer at first we could end up with many dates. Of course, the main OSM renderer is not perfect, but it is known to all, on this point I totally disagree with the OHM project which is wasting too much time discussing map rendering.

And on the other hand, we could lobby OSM members to agree to integrate historical data. This will be absolutely no problem and will not require any modification as we would use highway: DATE-DATE tags, they will not appear on renderers, and as a simple thin line in editors.

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:2016 02 23 1carrer1nom.jpg ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-".

In case that you are the author of the photo: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add <nowiki>{{CC0-self}}</nowiki> to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use <nowiki>{{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}}</nowiki> to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on [[Talk:Wiki]]: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step or when you are uploading files that are not your own work. --Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:58, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:2016 05 15 1carrer1nom.jpg ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified January 2022}} from the file page.

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified February 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Gagdet helping with assigning categories

Hi! There's a wiki gadget that might help you. Do you know HotCat? You can easily assign categories to wiki pages with it. It is enabled in your user preferences. Also it applies an edit comment automatically, which I do appreciate a lot! --Chris2map (talk) 06:49, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
