Địa danh hay địa điểm (tiếng Anh: Places) bao gồm tất cả các khu vực có dân cư sinh sống, bao gồm các thành phố, thị xã, thị trấn, thôn làng, ấp, khu phố, khu dân cư... không phân biệt ở thành thị hay vùng nông thôn. Kích thước, quy mô của địa danh hiển thị có thể rất đa dạng, từ những cái to lớn (từ châu lục, đại dương, biển cả) đến rất nhỏ (các thôn xóm), thậm chí không có dân cư sinh sống.
Để đặt tên địa danh, dùng key place=*
Cách thiết lập
Bạn có thể tạo địa danh đơn thuần bằng một điểm node (key place=*) tại khu vực trung tâm khu vực ấy, chẳng hạn quảng trường trung tâm thị trấn, làng mạc, nơi có các cơ sở hạ tầng, mạng lưới giao thông hoàn chỉnh, hoặc tượng đài quan trọng của thành phố. Ngoài ra, cũng có thể tạo địa điểm bằng Khu vực area
Human settlements
Human settlements should be tagged according to their size. Also consider adding population=* and wikipedia=* at least for cities and towns and also for villages where information is available.

Other places
Administrative boundaries
For a place which is also an administrative area:
- create a closed way around the perimeter of the area using one or more ways.
- Tagged these ways with boundary=administrative and with appropriate admin_level=*.
- Add these ways to a Relation:boundary)
- Add a boundary=administrative and appropriate admin_level=* to the relation
- Set the role of each way as 'outer' unless there is an enclave, in which case set it to inner.
- Optionally add a node at the centre of the administrative area and give it a role of "admin_centre".
