Procedure for Data Downloading and Editing

To download data surveyed by your Garmin device:

1. Connect Garmin device to computer using USB cable.

2. Set Garmin device in USB mode as follows:

  menu ------> setup ------> interface ------> usb connection.

3. Copy tack log data collected by your Garmin device during the day to a file on the computer.

4. Upload the track log file to your account on http://westbank.maps.jsintl.org/traces

5. Set Garmin device to normal mode by pressing the Power button

6. Open the openstreetmap folder, and then open gpsbabel to download the way point data collected by entering these settings:

  Input:   
  Format    Garmin serial
  (device)   usb

 Output:
 format     GPXXML  
  (device)

and save the data with another file name.

7. Click on "let's go" button.

8. From the openstreetmap folder, open the josm batch file.

9. Using this program open first the track log file, and then the way point file, saved on the computer.

10. Make sure the server settings are as follows:

   Edit------> preferences ------> connection setting for OSM server 

and write this link: http://westbank.maps.jsintl.org/api.

make sure you don't save your login/password on a shared computer!

11. Download existing data.

12. Start editing.

13. Upload your edits. And frequently upload/download so you won't lose your work, and so you can keep in sync with others editing at the same time.

14. Write a diary entry on your account to explain what you have done. http://westbank.maps.jsintl.org/diary

15. At this point you can remove the existing waypoints from the GPS receiver if you like. From the main menu, go to Find -> Waypoints, then hit the Menu button (lowest button on the left side), and select "Delete..." This will let you delete all waypoints or waypoints of any given icon of your choosing.
