Measurements
Don't forget that OpenStreetMap is an international project and that measurements are in the metric system! Measurement-related tags to be aware of:
- maxheight, maxwidth: Use meters (= feet × 0.3048)
- maxspeed: Use kilometers per hour (= miles per hour × 1.609)
- maxweight: Use metric tons (= U.S. tons × 0.907)
- width, est_width: Use meters
Better is to use explicit units, e.g. maxspeed=55 mph. This is supported, more accurate (it reflects the actual signage), and easier for everyone.
Streets/Highways
Base for United States Road Classification. Refer to United States roads tagging for information about what to use to tag each kind of road.
