This page documents the current use of the crossing=* tag. The entries are ordered by their prevalence in the planet file, with the most used first.

Tag Element Description
crossing=toucan node A crossing with traffic lights, and signals for pedestrians and cyclists
crossing=pelican node A crossing with traffic lights, and signals for pedestrians
crossing=zebra node A crossing with no traffic lights, and (usually) distinctive white stripes on the road for pedestrians
crossing=traffic_signals node A generic crossing with traffic lights. Can be changed to other values (toucan, pelican etc) when the exact type is known
crossing=uncontrolled node A generic crossing with no traffic lights. Can be changed to other values (zebra, island etc) when the exact type is known
crossing=island node A crossing with a small island for pedestrians in the middle of the road

There are a small number of other values making up around 2% of the total at the time of writing. These are not, however, widespread enough to be documented.

Please note that there is nothing stopping you from using a different tag value if it suits your tagging problem. For example, crossing=pegasus for traffic lights with horse signals.
