This is the community preferred tag to map former railway routes which are invincible now.
The tags railway=razed, railway=historic, railway=obliterated and railway=historical are also in use but mean the same.
If you can still see cutting=*, embankment=*, barrier=hedge_bank or highway=* on the old route use railway=abandoned instead!
A minority of members are against mapping invincible railways. Deleting will be considered as vandalism. (See Railways talk)
