* Macedonia is almost a blind spot on the OSM map for now. This should be changed. A first start can be editing by using the Yahoo! Aerial Images: however, this seems at the moment feasible only for the Skopje area as aerial images of the remaining parts of the country are in too poor quality to make out any details that would be required for mapping. So this is to all GPS owners in Macedonia, take your traces!

===Tagging conventions for inhabited places===
OSM conventions in [[key:place]] define places to be tagged as

* city (above 100.000 inhabitants)
* town (between 10.000 and 100.000 inhabitants)
* village (below 10.000 inhabitants)

However, in the Republic of Macedonia there is a law<ref name="law_territory">http://www.pravo.org.mk/download/Zakoni/Teritorijalna_organizacija_na_lokalnata_samouprava_na_RM.pdf Law on Territorial Organization of the Local Self-government in RM (Закон за територијалната организација на локалната самоуправа во РМ)</ref> defining which places are towns. Hence the places that are classified as towns should be tagged as such.

When mapping, you should stick as much as possible to the 'reality on the ground' principle, i.e. as much as possible put the ground labeling (as observed) for a place in the name tag. This principle will help in resolving any dispute about possible naming issues.

An example for naming of the town Krushevo:

# Macedonian cadastre agency [http://www.katastar.gov.mk/kartografija.html] has some high definition aerial images (ortophoto) which are accesible to public in Macedonia. They have defined terms of use of the data for derived commercial work. We need to investigate (i.e. ask) if any part of this data can be used, under terms (CC 2.0) of OpenStreetMaps, as basis for overlay drawing, i.e. derived work. The terms published on the page (in Macedonian) are:
