Summary

Description
English: Buoy marking the wreck of HMS Natal HMS Natal sank after a violent explosion at 3.20pm on 30 December 1915, probably due to a fire in faulty cordite that ignited a magazine. Around 400 sailors perished, some killed by the explosion others drowning in the freezing water of the Cromarty Firth. The wreck was later stripped for its steel and in 1970 blown up to prevent it being a hazard to the increased shipping supplying the oil industry.
