Object history
Deutsch: Der Ort entwickelte sich aus einer um 826 auf Reichenauer Besitz gegründeten Zelle des Bischofs Ratold von Verona und wurde 1267 zur Stadt erhoben. Seit dem Verkauf an Habsburg 1298 war Radolfzell bis 1805 eine österreichische Stadt. Die ältesten Siegel (seit dem 13. Jahrhundert) zeigen einen thronenden Bischof. Die ersten Belege des Stadtwappens - Habsburger Löwe und halbes (Reichenauer) Kreuz in gespaltenem Schild - liegen in einem Siegelabdruck von 1483 und auf einer Wappenscheibe von 1513 vor. 1526 verlieh Erzherzog Ferdinand der Stadt für ihre Treue im Bauernkrieg eine Wappenbesserung: goldene Bewehrung und Krone für den Löwen. So wird das Wappen bis heute geführt. Das Stadtbanner ist seit 1388 überliefert.
