Summary

Because of the lack of standards (or reference implementation??) and different level of support and/or implementation in apps it's hard to do 3D stuff in accordance to reality (or anywhere near to) across current interpreting apps. From a mappers perspective its tempting to 'tag for a [specific] renderer', because the fallback may exhibit artifacts as shown in the image.

For better appearance across different apps with different level of Simple_3D_buildings#Roof_shape support, it may either

  • be desirable to let mappers choose among one or more fallback options (and not let rendering code do that if it misses support for the top choice), or -the other way around-
  • provide a reference implementation accompanying the simple 3d buildings proposal, which may be embedded by webapps to ensure they are compatible to the same extent that other webapps are.
