Description
O caimão ou galinha-sultana Porphyrio porphyrio é uma espécie rara restringindo-se a sua presença em Portugal à Ria Formosa. Por outro lado, trata-se de uma espécie ameaçada: a sua dimensão e a plumagem vistosa tornaram-na, durante muito, alvo dos caçadores enquanto a progressiva drenagem de zonas húmidas destruiu parte importante do seu habitat.
