Object history
Deutsch: Großostheim hieß bis in das 18. Jahrhundert Ostheim. Im Jahr 1774 taucht die Bezeichnung Großostheim erstmals auf. Das 1910 von Prinzregent Luitpold verliehene Wappen ist eine Kombination aus einem nicht mehr vorhandenen Ortssiegel aus dem 17. Jahrhundert und dem geminderten Wappen der Adelsfamilie Schad, die sich nach Ostheim nannte und 1581 ausgestorben ist. Die Familie lebte lange im Bachgau. Ostheim gehörte zur Zent Bachgau. Die Kleeblätter sind dem verloren gegangenen Ortssiegel von Großostheim entnommen. Sie symbolisieren die Landwirtschaft und waren beliebte Figuren in alten Ortssiegeln und Dorfwappen. Sie finden sich auch im Wappen der Familie Clebiz von Nalsbach, die in Großostheim begütert war und 1573 im Mannesstamm erloschen ist.
