OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/Germany/Bundesstraßen

This OpenHistoricalMap project aims for the historical coverage of german Bundesstraßen in form of route relations. Due to their close history, the Fernverkehrsstraßen (German Empire), Reichsstraßen and Fernverkehrsstraßen (East Germany) are also included in this project. For the opening dates of individual ways, the similar project of OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/Germany/Highways is of use here.

Tagging

This section describes the standardization desired for this project. Listed below is a minimal set of tags. Additional tags can be added, as appropriate, but mappers should feel comfortable moving on if these have been included as a first pass.

Relations

When should segments be added to a Bundesstraßen route relation?

• Not until they have been designated as .
• East German motorways between 1974 and 1990-10-02 with Key:official_ref. All relations since 1990-10-03 follow the same criteria as West German ones.

When should relations be created?

• For each time period. For example, B 76
• All route relations should be grouped into a chronology relation
• Long routes can be split into segments. These segments are grouped independently into a chronology relation. All chronology relations are then grouped into a superroute relation
• All chronology/superroute relations are then grouped into an umbrella relation

Important dates

Here are some dates, where renumbering took place in the whole system

• 1932-01-17: Fernverkehrsstraßen introduced
• 1934-03-26: Fernverkehrsstraßen renumbered to Reichsstraßen
• 1936-02-27: Major expansion of the Reichsstraßen network
• 1938-1945: Expansion of Reichsstraßen into annexed territories
• 1945-08: All Reichsstraßen outside of current Germany are deleted
• 1949-05-23: West Germany established. Reichsstraßen there are renamed to Bundesstraßen
• 1949-10-07: East Germany established. Reichsstraßen there are renamed to Fernverkehrsstraßen
• 1990-10-03: German reunification. East German Fernverkehrsstraßen are incorporated into the Bundesstraßen network
