OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/Railroads in Württemberg
This page is a draft to get some overview over my current efforts of mapping the railroads in Württemberg in OHM. Detailed mapping focuses on the pre 1920s to limit the scope of the project a bit as track layouts tend to get very complex later on. No idea why I did that page in english, maybe because the majority of the community speaks that language.
Current State of Progress
Done
- Have at least one way for every railroad route, with
start_date=*and when neededend_date=*as well asusage=*tag. This effort is not limited to the pre 1920s. This means at country wide zoom level the map can be considered finished and accurate until that date.
In Progress
- Have a node for every station
- Set up route relations with names and operators
Parallel also some stations are being mapped whenever I encounter something interesting. Track plans before 1920 that haven't been mapped yet are always appreciated.

As a base map providing the status just before the railroad construction the "Flurkarten der Württembergischen und Hohenzollerschen Landesvermessung" can be used. More info available here: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/W%C3%BCrttemberg. These also include detailed station diagrams of Friedrichshafen-Stadt, Geislingen and Cannstatt as well as non detailed plans of multiple other stations. In Hohenzollern several Railroads are mapped as well. Source dates have to be individually figured out depending on the surrounding features. Be aware that there is a very broad range, wider then what the wiki suggests.

Two different detail levels: one with center lines as expected at that scale but also one very detailed one, almost down to the individual track in stations. Includes some trams and almost all industrial trackage as well. Source dates are available when right clicking on the source map.

Start Dates
I tend to use the first service as start date and consider trial and opening runs as happening on railway=construction, what I currently don't map.
