A grounding station is a zone, where a large grounding system was established.Such areas exist around nearly all radio masts used for VLF-, long- and mediumwave transmission as for their work a good grounding is necessary. Also some HVDC schemes use large grounding systems as at some of them the earth is the second pole or can be used as it. Grounding stations at HVDC schemes are always situated some kilometres away from the static inverter stations in order to avoid electrochemical corrosion. At some schemes the grounding station is in the sea.
