A research institute is an establishment endowed for doing research. Research institutes may specialize in basic research or may be oriented to applied research. Although the term often implies natural science research, there are also many research institutes in the social sciences as well, especially for sociological and historical research purposes.

How to Map

A campus

A campus of a research institute can potentially hold significant technical installations besides typical office buildings. Examples are a Particle Accelerator, a Research reactor, or a test drive area for research on autonomous driving.

Create an area around the institute and tag it with amenity=research_institute.

A building

Either add a node node at the centre or trace the building outline as a closed way area.

Add the tag office=research.
