A bomb shelter is a place to shelter from bombs, air raids, drone and missile strikes, etc. in emergency situations. It may be a mobile surface-level bomb shelter, an improvised reinforced concrete shelter, an underground bomb bunker, etc.

How to map

If the bomb shelter is specifically a bomb bunker, first read the section below.

Place node a node at the center of the feature or draw area an area along its outline.

Tag it with amenity=shelter, and shelter_type=bomb_shelter.

If the shelter is not publicly accessible around the clock, strongly consider using the proper access=* tag.

Relationship to bunkers

A bomb bunker is a specific type of bomb shelter.

If the bomb shelter is specifically a bomb bunker, then consider bunker_type=bomb_shelter (bunker_type and not shelter_type), alongside military=bunker or building=bunker. In principle, this can be used in combination with or instead of the amenity=shelter and shelter_type=bomb_shelter tagging. In practice, most mappers tag bomb bunkers without using amenity=shelter and shelter_type=bomb_shelter.

However, many bomb shelters aren't bunkers. They may be mobile units, surface bomb shelters, and more. amenity=shelter with shelter_type=bomb_shelter is the only tag suitable for those.
