Yes I need this feature as well. Not only for shopping areas, also residential Areas have sometimes pedestrianised roads .... Sven Anders 17:03, 27 Aug 2006 (BST)

I use "service" for these highways at present but agree that doesnt really fit for the pedestrianised highways. Not sure I would use "precinct" though. Why not just pedestrianised? Blackadder 18:55, 27 Aug 2006 (BST)

highway=pedestrian would fit more types of road than precinct. (we could even use it for roads in Portmerion...)

How can I decide between a pedestrianised former road (what pedestrianised implies at least for me) and an originally originally planned pedestrian way? (that started in the late sixties)scoid

The voting period has ended, and I was just about to add exactly what blackadder posted above. I really should have checked it earlier. I think highway=pedestrianised is a way better tag, as it doesnt inply that phisically the road can only take pedestrians as teh current proposal does. ben. 02:54 11/11/06 (UTC)

What about smaller places/squares within those pedestrianised areas?

Sometimes those streets become wider and are called "Platz" (German for place/square). They are still longer than wide but I think it's better to render it as area. Whats the best solution for those cases? --Andy 15:44, 26 May 2007 (BST)

  • If the area is a set width, you could add the width tag, but if you wanted to add the area as a closed way then the area=yes proposal is for such situations. Ben 23:21, 30 May 2007 (BST)
