Talk:Mod tile/Setup of your own tile server
Yet another howto
I documented my installation of PostgreSQL91, Mapnik2 and mod_tiles from scratch. It is more or less a composite of several other howtos merged to a single document.

I've imported and set up database and got mod tile creating tiles, it is very slow though until I've pre-rendered the zoom levels using the time ./render_list -m default -a -z 0 -Z 10 command. However it seems to be taking many days just to prerender zoom level 15, importing the whole database only took 3 days. Is this normal? Martin5000 14:51, 8 September 2011 (BST)
If you're on a sparse system and import the planet it can take weeks. I recommend going 64 bit Linux and at least 4GB RAM. --Kodapan 14:39, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Why "ModTileRequestTimeout 0" ?
I had to change this 0 value in my own installation (I chose 120), and someone I helped to install mod_tile today could not start serving tiles until he changed this value from the 0 given in this wiki page. It started to work immediately after this change. What is the rationale for setting it to 0 (instead of the value by default, 3, or 30 like ModTileMissingRequestTimeout, for example)? --Jgc 22:34, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
