Proposal talk:Motorway Exit

Just to point out that highway=motorway_link (for segments and ways) describing rams and sliproads together with highway=motorway_junction (for nodes) has been in the Map_Features list since the start. The Motorway Exit labeling listed here seems overly complicated and thefore a dange of inconsistency in use. Blackadder 09:56, 18 September 2006 (BST)

highway=motorway_link doesn't distinguish between exit/entries (which lead to lower-rank roads and therefore only make sense to be rendered if these roads are rendered too) and links (which lead to other motorways and need to be rendered together with the motorways). Aside from that, there is no specifed way to tag exit numbers and names. As to being complicated, the original labeling proposal consisted of just two well-defined tags (exit_nr and exit_name, OJW suggested that this should better be junction:ref and junction:name); I don't see what is complicated about that or could even result in inconsistencies, given that no other way to label motorway junctions has been devised yet. --GabrielEbner 16:40, 18 September 2006 (BST)
Are there some visual examples of where this tag is nessesery? Casue I can't currently see a need for it. motorway_link works fine. Ben. 14:57 13/11/2006 (UTC)
