Scope of the tag

should limit scope to places where customers can go. --Dieterdreist (talk) 09:54, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

added some details --Muzirian (talk) 18:25, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

services

Many courier companies offers door-to-door service. Some offer transport with bike, motorcycle, small cars, vans, pickups, and/or lorries. This information should be useful as well. Skippern (talk)

Dont know if that should be included in the map though.--Muzirian (talk) 08:19, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

office

Hi, if it is meant for office of couriers, then it should be office=courier. Chrabros (talk) 09:59, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Its a facility which may contain office, collection centre etc but not just an office. --Muzirian (talk) 10:02, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
So you propose to mix collection centre with the office and tag them the same way? Chrabros (talk) 10:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
like post office is actually an office but its an amenity, get it?--Muzirian (talk) 10:07, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
I think you would tag both, amenity=courier for the place where there's kind of a counter and customers bring in or take away postal items. For the office part of a courier, the office=courier tag is fine. On the other hand, we would also need some courier:<company>=yes property to add to places like kiosks, petrol stations, newspaper agents, etc. which act as service agents for courier companies (as one of the many services they might offer). There's some serious overlap with post offices. I still believe the scope of this tag should be described in more detail.--Dieterdreist (talk) 10:15, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Ya should be described in more detail.--Muzirian (talk) 10:24, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Instead of courier:<company>=yes cant we add company name under brand or operator tag?
Added more details to proposal page, pls check --Muzirian (talk) 18:36, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
I think there's a problem with amenity as well as with shop, examples amenity=fuel and shop=dry_cleaning. As they will usually have the same opening hours (as their "courier" service), it makes no sense to create a separate node within the "main" shop. But "amenity" or "shop" will already been taken by the latter. And the brand tag would also collide with the "main" brand. So I think the proposal of Dieterdreist above could possibly detailed similar to courier:[brand]=yes/office/subsidiary ?rtfm Rtfm (talk) 17:00, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Why not post_office

For most countries, where there is a national mail service, the phrase "Post Office" has a specific meaning to be one of the outlets for that service. (partly from Rjw62) People don't expect see a courier service when they look for post_office. And i believe one of the reasons for much of them not being added to the map already.
There are state owned and public private post offices at many places, they should be mapped as post_offices only. But still that doesn't make courier services to called and identified as post_offices.Their is a distinction between.
I think using post_office tag for everything will cause the confusion. And this is the main reason why people use other tags and why this proposal was made.--Muzirian (talk) 10:14, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
