Meaning of the tag

Search for 'festival grounds' and you get also many other kind of places which are called 'festival grounds' and are not related to singing in that meaning you most probably proposed the tagging -- to tag singing fields. And -- in this tagging, expect people to start tagging other kind of festivals' locations as well -- for example Oktoberfest or just some rock concert areas. Therefore I propose to name this kind of special place singing grounds or singing field. --Joosep-Georg 13:42, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Right, there could be other types of Festival Grounds in some places. But I see no issue to allow these to be tagged with this also. One requirement here would be that these must be permanent and dedicated places. Typically most festivals do not have the luxury of having special dedicated place. Oktoberfest is in temporary tents in city center, there are not special permanent grounds for this. Roskilde rock festival (like many others I guess) are held in some agricultural fields next to the city, using temporary stages. ps. also a permanent rock music festival venue (if there is such thing somewhere) could be called "singing grounds", as there is a lot of singing during concerts :) --Jaakl 21:58, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Isn't landuse=festival_grounds a better idea? After all, it is an area dedicated to such venues. leisure=festival_grounds can also be a better solution than amenity=festival_grounds, though I would say landuse=* is the best choise. --Skippern 09:02, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I prefer leisure=festival_grounds, because festivals are not the primary landuse in most cases. The festivals I know take a few days a year. The areas are used as a meadow or recreation_ground for the rest of the year. --Fkv (talk) 22:52, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

I can see this tag, whether it be amenity, landuse, or leisure, being used for county fairgrounds in the United States. Werewombat (talk) 05:35, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I've been tagging the fair grounds I come across with this. Invidious (talk) 20:08, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

What's the difference from https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:theatre:type%3Dopen_air which is more widely used and rendered, although newer? This one now seems redundant to me. --Dāvis Kļaviņš (talk) 08:00, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Not rendered
