Which relation to use

I did a relation for the wikipedia:Aqueduct of the Gier [1] it's a multipolygon relation. Otourly 13:01, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Otourly for your comment. In the case of an aqueduct which is mapped as an area I agree, but most aqueducts are mapped as linear ways, for which the suitable relation is route. --Dieterdreist 12:55, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

New underground aqueducts

At the top of the proposal page it reads: Note: current aqueducts should be mapped as pipelines. . The thing this proposal/tag describes is the physical structure that looks like an aquaduct - as in the pictures, irrespective of the current use for transporting water. Then why this? "The main disadvantage is, that aqueducts not always are bridge-like structures, there is also underground aqueducts and others like walls with the conveying tube above." --NE2 13:23, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

The aqueducts I am thinking of are

• New construction. Not something from history.
• Run many miles
• Are totally underground, perhaps 200 meters underground often
• Are related to electricity production and / or irrigation / drinking water
• Are 5 meters in diameter.

Underground features are difficult to map. But if you can verify the route, use man_made=pipeline if the waterway is constructed from pipe assemblies, or waterway=canal with tunnel=* if it is not a pipeline, for your 5 meter wide, underground artificial waterways. --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:39, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Historic ground-level and underground "aqueducts"?

The main definition of "aqueduct" in British English is a bridge (or viaduct) that carries an artificial waterway over a valley. This is also how the tag bridge=aqueduct is used.

Should historic=aqueduct only be used for these above-ground structures, or is it necessary for parts of historic waterways which are underground or at ground level? --Jeisenbe (talk) 01:42, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
