Rendering Ideas

Paper Atlas-like rendering for peaks:

importance=5.0;international zoom=>5

importance=3.0;national zoom=>7

importance=1.0;regional zoom=>10

importance=0.0;urban zoom=>12

importance=-1.0;suburban zoom=>14

importance=>-2.0;local zoom=>15

Other Rendering Ideas: Hiking, we climb not only normal peaks, but also

 natural=volcano
 natural=glacier

Combined cycle and foot paths

Would it be possible to render the JOSM preset: combined cycle and foot paths (highway=path, bicycle=designated, foot=designated) a bit more like highway=cycleway on the Hike & Bike Map? As it is now they just show up as regular paths. Joakim Fors 15:33, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Mountainbiking

What do you think of rendering mountainbike routes (see Lonvida's MTB-Routen) like cycleways on the hikeandbikemap, maybe in another color but with good contrast in the woods? --Peter-Alexander 19:27, 6 August 2012 (BST)

Thanks

Great work! I love it. --Cordialement, gerdami 16:12, 18 May 2012 (BST)

Problem with HIkeBike Map

Hallo Colin, just to let you know that the http://www.hikebikemap.org/ seems to have a problem, only tiles with the text: "Contact User:TheDJ if you want to maintain OSMdb and or the wfmlabs' tiles server". Probably something with the tile server went wrong - you see, usually I love to use your map and missing it already, regards from Switzerland Martin Mboesch (talk) 12:24, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

See also my comments here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T187601#7642399 Short story, I'm no longer putting in the volunteer time to keep that server running, so unless some other wikimedian steps up, it's going to die. TheDJ (talk) 14:18, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi Colin, so I understand; its a pity that the project will not continue to exist, it seems, the Wikimedia foundation seems not to have too many interest in maps. At least, for Wikivoyage, we have the Cartographer running, but the standard map is with too little details, Mapnik is better, but in countries with non latin letters, the map is rendered in local language, so it is pretty useless, if you dont speak chinese, korean, greek or arab... I would love to have a language selector to switch to other language labels, but that still is far away. - Thank you for your work, regards from Switzerland mb - Mboesch (talk) 18:02, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
