Is there a page talking about the why of modernisation? Arlo James Barnes (talk) 21:26, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Good idea, I'll write that up --ZeLonewolf (talk) 21:50, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Incorrect map position

I noticed that all the Overpass turbo links you created have the map placed in Patagonia. Before sharing the links, please zoom and pan the map so that the country, state, or province in question is in view, like I did for the Asia links. JriSv250 (talk) 01:22, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, good tip. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 01:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

JOSM presets

Shouldn't the JOSM presets be changed to reflect this change? I learned how to map using the presets more often than searching for wiki's. preset-water-water-riverbank still exists in JOSM and leads one to continue creating waterway=riverbank --unsigned comment by User:Alan01730.

@Alan01730: Probably, there is a similar ticket open for water=reservoir conversion as well. At current, iD uses water=river and JOSM uses waterway=riverbank, which is not a great situation. What's needed is for someone to submit a patch for JOSM to make the change. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 04:01, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Note, this Wiki project is giving a lot of incorrect information, like "depreciation" of waterway=riverbank tagging. This was NEVER the case as noted by people who have actually been voting. JOSM is acting in line of good faith and not forcing using of any schema unlike iD. Tstraupis (talk) 10:28, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
That was 10 years ago. We are deprecating it now. --501ghost (talk) 18:03, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Who are these "we"? It was said numerous times that NOTHING can be deprecated. Especially such widespread tags. Tstraupis (talk) 10:28, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
This very long list on the Wiki says otherwise. --501ghost (talk) 21:31, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Future projects?

Any ideas for taking this beyond the use of waterway=riverbank? Ideas I can think of are: the other cleanups found here where they exist without waterway=riverbank; adding water=* to classify natural=water where it′s missing; more unmapped river areas (Mapswipe?) or tackling similar pairs such as landuse=reservoir / natural=water+water=reservoir.

These are good ideas. The reservoir project would be a _massive_ undertaking due mostly to funny imports, and we'd need to sort out reservoir versus basin tagging. Basically every object needs to get inspected by hand. Classifying water is another good one though there's weird challenges there, like the distinction between lake and pond. Another one not mentioned is scrubbing water=river+name=* for cases where the river area duplicates the name of the river running through it. The riverbank cleanup described in this page is the easiest starting point, and of course there's still a way to go before we're done. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 22:05, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Well, there are already MapRoulette challenges for the removal of landuse=reservoir all across the US. I personally have a wiki page for modernizing the state of Arizona with newer reservoir tags. This is a beast to do and is tedious. I use the procedure paired with this MapRoulette challenge.
Modernizing basins (landuse=basin / natural=water + water=basin + basin=*) could also be an idea.

Crossing waterways and highways: imagery?

Bing imagery isn’t good enough in much of Sweden to identify the correct mapping of intersections. Is there an alternative? --Andrew (talk) 12:16, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Merkaartor

Riverbanks were reintroduced today? Is it still a preset in Merkaartor? Andrew (talk) 21:24, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
