Marks that building has multiple different roof shapes at once.

Shapes can be specified on building:part=* areas. Such detailed mapping is useful for 3D rendering as the value many is impossible to be rendered.

It was initially used on Sri Lanka by HOT mappers in 2016, reaching use count of above 1000 elements[1].

Later it become used by StreetComplete (likely it was spotted by its author on taginfo) as one of options for roof shape quest resulting in quick growth, accelerating as StreetComplete usage increased.

In late 2021 the roof shape quest stopped being enabled by default in StreetComplete, which reduced how often roof:shape=* was tagged by its users. This also included a reduction in the growth of roof:shape=many.
