My name is Martin Renvoize and I'm based in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. I no longer consider myself a new memeber of the OSM community but i'm not sure I yet make it into the veteran category! I'm an active bloke, keen on Kayaking, Technology and Independent Travel.

I enjoy most Outdoor pursuits (Hiking, Climbing, Kayaking, Camping and Scouting) and felt the OSM project would be a good way to combine such hobbies and interests.

I'm currently working in the Integrated Library Solutions arena mainly contributing to Open Source Projects such as Koha and Evergreen.

I have a master’s degree in physics from the University of Liverpool, graduated 2009! Fancy an Physics or Technology related chat, then get in touch!

My Mapping

My current contributions

I currently undertake mapping in the Northwest (Around Liverpool, Southport and Blackpool and The Lakes) and South (Potters Bar’s surrounding areas) using my local knowledge and NPE/GeoSat Tracing. From time to time as i visit new places I'll map them too, often adding details about whitewater rivers or scouting locations.

I’ve also mapped out the boundary of the Lake District using, again, local knowledge and various friends.

Some of my most used tags are;

Scout Camps

My Projects

Being a keen Whitewater Paddler (Kayak and Canoe) I have gotten involved with Whitewater Maps trying to fill in a few of the blanks in the Lake District and Northern Wales (My Old University Paddling Haunts). I’ve got a good starting point using a previous personal project Paddle World! on Google Maps. I just wish there was an easier way to import this data!

I'm also getting involved in the Wiki Cleanup. I enjoy contributing to the Wiki, but feel it's pretty rough around the edges right now. I think that, through the use of templates, users could contribute much more efficiently while keeping the Wiki 'clean' and I aim to help implement such work.

To Do List

  • Ongoing - Whitewater Wiki Project, Rivers listed on Lists.
  • How does Potlatch Live Work (Relating to a Wave like environment)?
  • MediaWiki Extension to allow Page Insertions. (i.e. so a template could manipulate both the article pages and it's associated talk page.)
  • Cleanup Marine Mapping
  • Cleanup Harbour
  • Cleanup Water feature
  • Creating country pages

Things I'd Like to See

I’d like to see the OSM Map emulate a Wiki more closely with Change Monitoring and Roll-back; I'm pretty sure there's already in-depth conversations about this and they're working hard to implement such a system.

I’d also love to see some sort of Federation Protocol work undertaken. This is obviously a very difficult task and would be pretty server intensive. Ideally a “Wave” (Google) plug-in would enable multiple users to work simultaneously on an area of the map and see what each other is working on in real time!

Other Projects

I have contributed to a number of River Guides on WikiPaddle and am interested in developing my development skills in the OpenSatNav project for Android. I’m also dabbling in the development of a project management system based upon the Google Wave federation protocol as a plug-in to Google own implementation.

Skills

I have limited experience in;

C#, C++, Java, and Pascal. HTML and AJAX. Team Management. Project Management. Maths and Science Tuition. Server Setup and Network Maintanence. Linux, Windows and Mac OSX.
