country specific definition

“A typical bird hide resembles a garden shelter, with...” seems to be an unnecessary restriction of the usage of this tag, influenced by a specific context and not necessarily valid on a global scale. —Dieterdreist (talk) 08:20, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

To me that doesn't appear as a "restriction" as such. It's an attempt at describing a typical bird hide (In north Europe at least)

animal observation places not for birds

I do not understand from the definition if this is bird specific or can be used for animal observation places not meant to observe primarily birds. —Dieterdreist (talk) 08:23, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

"Animal observation places" in Northern Europe appears to be almost exclusively some variant of bird hide (primarily for bird watching). I'll have no problem with bending the definition a bit, if it can be helpful.

Bird hides currently are not displayed on the default map. This is adressed in https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/3175 though.
