Summary

Description

A etiqueta «S2» abaixo do sinal indica a referência do sinal.
English: A "Conditions of Access to Canton" signal, or "SCAC" (from the Portuguese abbreviation), in Portugal.

This signal, installed before the exits of railway stations, tells train drivers whether the railway is free of obstacles, such as other trains. If there are level crossings close to the station, this signal also tells whether its barriers have been lowered.

In this picture, the signal is showing its most restrictive aspect: a red, horizontal stripe. This means the line is not free of obstacles.

If, on the other hand, the signal showed a white vertical stripe, this would mean the railway is confirmed free of obstacles.

This signal is only used in lines operated with the SISE system, or "simplified computerized system of operation". At the time of writing, this only applies to the Vouga Line.

The "S2" label is the reference of this signal.
