Rationale

This is a split of original Fire Hydrant Extensions. The aim is to let the original proposal go to vote with the unanimously approved tags and to continue here the discussion of other tags.

New Tagging

Here is the new proposed tagging for a fire hydrant, for numeric values with units, see the guidelines: Map Features/Units

Proposed tags
Tag Description Valid values
min_suction_head=* Used together with pressure=suction when water level in the pond/stream/tank/pool is high and its distance from ground level is to the minimum. # in meters
max_suction_head=* Used together with pressure=suction when water level in the pond/stream/tank/pool is low and its distance from ground level is to the maximum. # in meters
operational_status:date=* Date of the last functional check (this tag is not specific to fire hydrants). It is useful to differentiate between hydrants certainly working and hydrants whose functionality is not known. yyyy-mm-dd
wrench=* Type of wrench needed to open the hydrant. see below for reference
cap:wrench=* Type of wrench needed to open the hydrant caps. In many cases it is different from the wrench used to open the hydrant itself. see below for reference
pump=* Used for hydrants connected to fire water wells when there is an integrated pump (this tag is not specific to fire hydrants). yes
pump:type=* Type of the pump, to be uesed together with pump=* (this tag is not specific to fire hydrants). bilge_pump, electric_pump

Adding wrench=* and cap:wrench=*

Values for wrench=* and cap:wrench=*
Value Description
hand No wrench needed, you can use your hands
pentagonal A wrench with pentagonal footprint
squared A wrench with squared footprint
triangular A wrench with triangular footprint
linear A wrench with linear or rectangle footprint
allen Allen wrench (or hex key)
pin_spanner Pin spanner
hook_spanner Hook spanner
key The hydrant is locked with a key needed to open it

This list can be extended as needed by mappers if they find a different type of lock for hydrants. Use semicolon separated values if more than one wrench type is needed. (e.g. wrench=pentagonal;squared or wrench=key;pentagonal)
