Motivation

A petting zoo is generally quite different from a regular zoo (tagged with tourism=zoo). A petting zoo usually is aimed at local children and not really at tourism. A petting zoo can also become a point of social attraction for the neighbourhood. The animals are usually safe to be handled by children, in contrast to the often exotic and dangerous animals in a zoo.

To keep things simple (see the discussion page), the proposal is to tag petting zoos with tourism=zoo combined with zoo=petting_zoo. This would be the first use of the key zoo=*.

Numbers

I (Sybren) live in the northern area of Amsterdam (NL) and in my direct vicinity there are two petting zoos (one on OSM). There are 33 petting zoos in the greater area of Amsterdam. Petting zoos in The Netherlands can be found at the website of Stichting Kinderboerderijen.

Rendering

I (Sybren) am not an icon artist, but I'm the photographer of the above photo. Feel free to modify it in such a way that it is usable as an icon.
