Rationale

  • Searches This would enable the user to search for features with emojis (on websites using osm directly but also on search engines) This would mostly be relevant and useful for moblie users.
  • Data consumers allows extraction of emojis for maps (cause they look nice) and other purpouses.

Which key ?

name:Zsye

Zsye is the code for emojis based on the ISO 15924, Codes for the representation of names of scripts code for emojis

name:emoji

since the Zsye is no language it would therefor not fit into the name:** scheme and might be better represented with name:emoji

emoji

since one might say that emojis are no language it might be false to even represent them as one therefore emoji might be the better key

Tagging

What are the Emojis which should be added ?

Regional Indicator Symbols: these are based on the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes, and tend to render as flags.

Currently 249 cases.

Tags (Unicode): these are an additional, alternative way of indicating flags, currently used for England, Scotland, and Wales. In the future the Tags group should expand with flags for states, prefectures, districts, and provinces; at the moment only three flags are represented there.

Emoji pictograms: these include emoji that are graphical representations of (specific/unique) OSM elements; e.g., U+1F5FC (Tokyo Tower)

Currently 4?.

Examples

While it is represented here with the code pointers please use the Unicode characters and not the code pointers.
