Almien coastlines (PGS)

Almien coastlines (PGS) is a script for importing PGS coastline data into OpenStreetMap

It constructs large ways tagged with Tag:natural=coastline

Using the script

To see an area of coastline in OSM, you must download the relevant data from NGA, and run a perl program to upload it

This script can upload data via the Protocol directly, in which case you have to edit it to use your OSM username/password. Or, you can review the data in JOSM prior to upload.

To check which parts have been done you have also view the Coastline checker.

Canada - West Coast	West coast has been imported, cleanup currently underway, most issues are small islands that are backwards, or holes due to cloud cover. All major islands including Vancouver and Queen Charlottes have been imported.	Mersar
Canada - Northern	Some northern coastline and islands have been converted and uploaded from PGS, however will require a lot of manual cleanup due to issues with ice being confused for land or water, and gaps below 84N and lack of coverage near the pole.	Mersar

Parts of Sydney, and Copenhagen have been uploaded too, so check what's been done already before uploading near those areas.

We have a problem with Asia(East End near to Alaska) and Antarctica. The editors are not able to handle areas crossing the date line (-180/180). The areas have to be broken into different areas.
At least in JOSM the min/max Longitude is -/+179.99999999 and Latitude -/+85.0511 ( --Michael 01:02, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
