Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)
On 1 January 2023, the Department of Transport was renamed the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
DTP’s establishment centralises transport, key planning and land use activities, precinct and policy functions within a single department.
Bringing planning and transport together will improve project design, regulatory approvals, community consultation and better realise local economic and community opportunities for more liveable communities across Victoria.
Victorians will continue to interact with us as they always have, under a new name. There are no changes to how people access information from Public Transport Victoria (PTV), Vicroads, Regional Roads Victoria or Planning.
DTP Use of OpenStreetMap (OSM) Data
DTP has taken the strategic step of adopting OSM as the primary data source for the network maps; road, rail, train, tram and cycling. As part of this decision the department has accepted that the use encompasses the responsibility to maintain and enhance the mapping content to the highest standard for all users of OSM.
The immediate OSM features to be utilised and improved by the department, include:
- All Victorian roads
- Public transport
- Tram and Bus stops
- Railways station detail to enable pedestrian path finding.
- Active transport facilities
- Cycling
- Pedestrian facilities
- Accessibility information across all forms of transport
DTP Principles of OSM use
In keeping with the OSM guidelines:
- Truthful - means that you cannot contribute something you have invented.
- Legal - means that you don't copy copyrighted data without permission.
- Verifiable - means that others can go there and see for themselves if your data is correct.
- Relevant - means that you have to use tags that make clear to others how to re-use the data.
DTP aims to become a respectful and respected member of the OpenStreetMap community.
