Introduction

Heading: OSMF membership prerequisites survey
Subheading: 2022 survey on the introduction of membership prerequisites

At our June 2022 meeting, the board of the OSM Foundation (OSMF) decided to only accept new applications for OSMF membership and associate membership from people who have previously contributed to OpenStreetMap. This step was based on several rounds of community consultations and a mandate from the 2020 AGM to explore the issue (see the background section for more details).

To evaluate contributions, we are looking at the number of calendar days on which a person has edited the map. Currently, we expect at least 16 days of mapping. This metric is easy to verify for our volunteers with the help of automation and existing tools. We view mapping as fundamental to what OpenStreetMap is, so map contributions seem a decent baseline indicator of familiarity with and involvement in the project.

As an OSMF member, we want to hear your feedback on this approach to make sure we're moving in the right direction. This survey is not a binding vote, but will inform future board decisions. Please take the time to fill in the questions and let us know your thoughts!
This survey is anonymous.

The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information about you, unless a specific survey question explicitly asked for it.

If you used an identifying token to access this survey, please rest assured that this token will not be stored together with your responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether you did (or did not) complete this survey. There is no way of matching identification tokens with survey responses.
