GPS chipsets used in GNSS/GPS devices.

Details

frequencies

  • L1 : 1575.42 MHz, C/A code 1.023 MHz

acquisition

  • cold start : GPS doesn't know anything. It has to get UTC time, almanac, and find out the satellites in view
  • warm start : GPS knows UTC time and almanac, but does not know the satellites in view
  • hot start : GPS knows UTC time, almanac, and satellites in view

sensitivity

  • acquisition : GPS has to discover the satellite
  • reacquisition : GPS knows where it should be, but lost it
  • tracking : GPS knows where it is, and follows it

DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System), there are several forms

  • RTCM, over radio waves
  • SBAS, over satellite :
    • WAAS - Wide Area Augmentation System
    • EGNOS - European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service
    • MSAS - Multi-functional Satellite Augmentation System
    • GAGAN - GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation
    • QZSS - Quasi-Zenit-Satellite-System
