Description
Liverpool is a city in the North West of the United Kingdom, surrounded by the M57 motorway and "Queens Drive" ring road. According to the Liverpool page on wikipedia it is the 5th most populous city in England and is famous for various reason including its great shipping heritage, and its links to the Beatles.
OSM Coverage
User:Mcknut has been working on South Liverpool with amck since late 2006. The Liverpool Mapping Party added fairly extensive coverage of central Liverpool and resulted in increased coverage in Everton, Aigburth and New Brighton.
Yahoo! Aerial imagery coverage
Yahoo! Aerial Imagery now covers most of Liverpool and is very useful for mapping the area, however Liverpool is changing at a rapid rate as many developments are in progress so local knowledge and street-level surveying is a must.
Out-of-copyright maps of Liverpool
Liverpool is well covered by the Out-of-copyright maps, specifically the "New Popular Edition" made by the Ordnance Survey, which can be found here
Much has changed since these were produced though so they are not all that much use unfortunately.
Plans for further mapping
- Complete all primary and trunk roads out to the M57. Ideally this will involve making sure the classification, reference number, name and number of carriageways is correct for the length of all roads.
- Fill in place names. These can be found by using the NPE WMS layer in JOSM.
- Check the coastline against Yahoo! imagery.
- Complete the city!
