University of Zambia YouthMappers is a chapter that aims at mapping different communities in collaboration with other existing chapters around the world and make the data available for everyone to use. It empowers students with skills, and knowledge through mapping. In addition, it also focuses on mapping communities and making the data available for the government for planning and NGOs to enhance development in the community. YMUNZA is located at the University of Zambia Great East Road main campus Lusaka, Zambia. This was the first chapter to be opened in Zambia in 2017 with only 5 members , and today it consists of at least 120 members (50 males and 70 females). So far, it has inspired many Universities, colleges and communities in Zambia to open chapters and be part of YouthMappers. Similarly, the chapter has contributed tremendously to the government republic of zambia through mapping different communities since its establishment at the University of Zambia. The YouthMappers Unza (YMUNZA) has been an active chapter in Zambia since it was created it has being working with the OpenStreetMap Zambia in the number of projects some of those project include Mapping pre-urban areas in lusaka, Mapping for sanitation within lusaka to improve sanitation levels and mapping for cholera in lusaka and many more. YMUNZA is one of the growing chapters in Zambia and it has worked a lot with OSMZambia to make sure that most of the areas in Zambia are mapped and contribute to the development of the community as well as contributing to SDGs in different types of projects.

Since this project will be the first one in its kind in Zambia under YouthMappers, we will ensure and carry out a perfect remote mapping on buildings across the country. As earlier alluded to, the aim is to map unmapped areas in Zambia and produce the perfect free data which will be made available on OSM and government and other stakeholders. Upon achieving, it will further help on building the OSM community in Zambia. This will also make the government and organisation to appreciate the OSM as their data is being used in decision making, planning, budgeting, coordinating, controlling etc.

Yes, on capacity building. We antedate that this effort will likely need to map the communities in Zambia, thus, we therefore, request the OSMF to help on building capacity and an addition of mappers across the world to contribute to this project through remotely mapping. In addition, also help in terms of tools that can be suitable for this project.
