Micronation

Not an actual national border. To quote Wikipedia: 'He continues to pay property taxes on the land to Storey County, the recognized local government, although he calls it "foreign aid".'

A micronation is a entity claiming to be independent nation or sovereign state, but lacking any recognition whatsoever by any actual sovereign state and not having de facto sovereign control over its territory.

Note that they often engage in imitation of activities of states, such as

  • publishing constitutions, laws, flags etc
  • issuing various materials such as currencies, passports (with no actual recognition)
  • assigning presidents, dictators, kings or other leaders
  • mutual recognition of some other micronations

Such objects, if having actual on the ground traces, are mappable in OSM. Micronations existing only online are not mappable at al.

But these should not be mapped as actual national borders but as tourism attractions (where these are actual tourism attractions) or similar objects.

If named location is recognisable they may be mapped using place=locality or similar, but it does not apply to ones where their location/name is not recognisable in reality.
