The project Windmills in Germany is dedicated to mapping historic windmills using historical Messtischblätter (≈ ordnance maps) while concurrently building a comprehensive database. By harnessing the wealth of information within these maps, we aim to preserve and document the rich history of windmills, creating a valuable resource for enthusiasts, researchers, and communities alike.
Objectives
This project is dedicated to mapping every windmill present on the historical Messtischblatt available on susudata. The map collection spans from the 1920s to the late 1940s and 50s. To accommodate this temporal range, we recommend generalizing the 'start_date' and 'end_date' tags to ensure comprehensive coverage. For the start_date we would use 1900 and the end_date 1930.#
