Proposal

Add a few new tags to the OpenStreetMap to represent fire (and other types of) alarms and pull stations. We have emergency=fire_alarm_box , but they are very rare and often associated with old days. Add emergency=fire_alarm or something similar for a notification appliance, and emergency=fire_alarm_pull_station for a call point/pull station, however there does exist other methods, such as a push button in Italy as far as I am aware.

Rationale

Fire escape/exit maps include alarms and pull stations mapped in. These maps exist to help people get familiar in case of emergency, which OSM should acknowledge.

Tagging

For both, there should be a field for the brand name of the creator, the model of the device, and for call points, there should be a field for weather it is pulled, pushed, pulled and pushed, or other, and whether it is keyed/locked, color, as some prisons and mental hospitals among others have them like that. For alarms, there should be a description on the sound, a description on the light pattern, weather it has a light or is only a speaker, the volume set on the appliance, the color of it, and a place to insert an archive.org identifier of the sound the alarm makes (for building owners, not regular people). An archive.org identifier is useful as fire alarms are an important and crucial resource, and future AI technologies or workers might listen to the sample, and archive.org seems to be best fit for a redundant resource resistant to failure or takedowns. Additionally, there exists other types of alarms and pull stations, such as police alarm units and pull stations operated by BluePoint, and a medical pull station also operated by bluepoint. Other companies also make pull stations for medical, police/lockdown, emergency door activation/release, tornados, chemical spills, and generic. Just to note, there also is a fire alarm for deaf people in some hotels that vibrates beds when the alarm is on. Maybe emergency=other_alarm and emergency=other_alarm_callpoint would fit.

Examples

  • This may help admins import the OSM to their personal map, which they can individually test each alarm out and check it
