Definition: A proposed tagging scheme to represent marketplaces where different types of goods are sold on different days.
Draft started: 2023-06-15

Proposal

This proposal seeks to introduce a new way of tagging for common marketplaces where different goods are sold depending on the day of the week. The current tagging conventions don't seem to allow for indicating this kind of variability in a machine-readable way.

Rationale

This feature becomes particularly important when considering the usability of OSM data in apps like OsmAnd. For instance, if a user is searching for a "food market" or a "clothes market," it would be helpful for the search result to reflect the type of market that is actually operating at the time of the search. Additionally, it could enhance user experience if these applications could inform the user that different goods are sold on different days at this location.

Tagging

Details of the proposed tagging scheme will be defined based on the community's input. The aim is to create a way to represent the variability of goods sold at a marketplace over the week, while also maintaining the verifiability of data.

Examples

Examples of usage and implementation will be defined based on the community's input.

Rendering

Rendering suggestions will depend on the final form of the proposed tagging scheme.

Features/Pages affected

List of wiki pages that would be edited if the proposal is approved will be updated based on the tagging scheme finally decided upon.
