Proposal talk:Tidal road

I thought we used 'causeway' rather than 'tidal_road' - e.g. highway=unclassified, causeway=yes? There are a few in the database [1] Grahamjones 20:12, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Surely the road in this case simply has tide-related opening times (and a variable surface?). It may be secondary, tertiary, unclassified or whatever. The fact that it is sometimes closed by the tide should be tagged separately from the type of road. --Csmale 20:18, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Strongly suggest an alternative to defining additional features such as tidal roads, paths, causeways, islands, etc etc. Much better would be to come up with a tag system to define occasional coverage by water. Obvious might be something like 'tidal_coverage=yes' or even 'tidal_closure=yes' which could go onto any other way/area. BUT I'm also seeking something which would work for inland river islands. Interested to see proposal Proposed_features/Water_cover for 'Water_cover=tidal' and 'Water_cover=intermittent' which seem to me to do what I'm needing. Rostranimin 11:50, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
