Rationale

Hibbs flagpole.JPG
Blaue Flagge hr 2007.jpg

Flagpoles are important manmade landmarks. Usually they are visible over a long distance. Some flags are signals (at beach for swimmers).

The definition aims on the flagpole with a flag as attribute, because compared to the flag it is immobile.

Definition

man_made=flagpole
+ operator=* (Who hoises the flag?)
+ type=*          (signal | national | governmental | …)
+ height=## (height unitless in meter like 10)
+ lit=yes/no (the flag is lit up (for example there is a bright light at the flag at night))

Delimitation

Only distinctive flagpoles should be mapped. This definition does not aim on the small flags on golfcourses.

Future additions

There are very few signal flags in the map. We will have to evaluate what tags are most useful to describe the kind of signal and the meaning. In a further proposal the flag can be extended.
